Training academy
Every guide trains and certifies before their first conversation
Hosting a good conversation across cultures is a craft, and keeping it safe is a responsibility. That’s why the curriculum is mandatory and the certification gate is real: no guide takes a paid conversation without passing it, and crisis-escalation skills are re-certified every six months.
Coming soon: the academy courseware is being built now. Applicants accepted into the pipeline will be invited to the first cohort. The planned curriculum is below.
The planned curriculum (≈ 20–25 hours)
What this service is — and what it is not
Cultural exchange with a wellbeing theme: not counseling, not coaching, not tourism sales, not religious instruction. The guide's role as a named, credited cultural host.
Bhutanese cultural fluency for an international audience
Telling your own story well — daily life, family, festivals, lay Buddhist practice, Gross National Happiness as lived reality — and fielding naive questions with grace.
Conversation craft & deep listening
Open questions, reflective listening, comfortable silence, and pacing a 30-minute conversation from warm-up to a kind close.
Boundaries
No off-platform contact, gifts, or romantic engagement — and how to use the hand-off tool, which is normal, expected, and consequence-free.
PG & content standards
What the monitoring system watches for and why — and how it protects guides as much as members.
Crisis recognition & escalation
Recognize → escalate → step back. Guides learn to spot signs of crisis and hand the situation to the licensed clinician immediately. This module never teaches counseling — escalating fast is the skill.
Platform mechanics
Bookings, availability, earnings, hand-offs, flags, and getting support.
Practice & feedback
Live, recorded role-plays — a normal conversation, a boundary push, and a crisis drill — with trainer feedback. These feed the certification review.
The certification gate
Certification combines a scored scenario quiz with human-reviewed recorded role-plays — including a crisis drill that must be passed at 100%. New guides’ first real conversations also receive a next-day review with written feedback.
We intend certification to be issued by a Bhutanese partner institution, with BhutanHappy supplying the curriculum and platform — so the credential belongs where it should. Crisis protocols are re-drilled every six months, and hosting pauses automatically if a re-drill lapses.
